The Concept

The design concept of the defensive Herald of Agony build is to pile up as many defences as possible, without abandoning offence entirely. How can we make it? Through the use of the new Herald of Agony lackeys. Herald of Agony is a new Herald released in Path of Exile 3.4 patch. It features a built-in mechanic where it adds a stack whenever the character poisons an enemy. As long as you have at least one stack, you will be adhered by an immortal lackey to fight alongside you. The stacks go up to 40, and the lackey becomes stronger based on how many stacks you have.

The base damage of the Herald lackey is remarkably high and climbs up quite well with higher stacks. With a six-link Herald, it's quite easy to clear all map and boss content as well as doing harm to wise. You don't even have to scale your lackey damage high and be able to focus entirely on mitigation, all because of this. 

Layers of Defense

Most of your defence fulfils the need of improving your maximum resistances far above what is normally possible. Adopting a Lightning Coil, Saffell's corruption, and Taste of Hate, you can convert 58% of your physical damage taken into elemental. This can be heightened up to 30% by putting on the right Watcher's eye. Nugiyen is using a Watcher's Eye with 115 additional conversions, raising it up to 69%. At 69% conversion, this indicates that you're featuring 42% of the physical damage that normal build does.
